Not all road trips are a vacation or for pleasure, sometimes life smacks you in the face and you need to help others. On October 8th devastation and chaos would soon sweep over Northern California, Sonoma County and the people that live there. Thousands of structures like homes and businesses were burned to the ground. There was little notice for people to evacuate let alone grab valuables or clothes.
Waking up to see the lose this community had endured made me want to help in any way I could. I drove 10 hours to Santa Rosa to donate the goods I had collected. I dropped the collected items at a local donation warehouse and took a dozen teddy bears to the Sonoma County Fair Grounds for the families that had to evacuate.
There is such a strong community there and it was amazing seeing them come together in a time of need. There were overpasses with signs thanking the first responders and all those helping, it truly made me smile.
A huge Thank You! goes to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country, for hosting me and supporting my journey. They took in a lot of fire victims and also collected donations. They really have a wonderful caring team which made everyone feel welcomed.
If you would like to help Northern California or those in need…
